Everyone with a device, please get it out and check my website. :)
Read this aloud as a class and work through it together. Do your best.
At least read the essay and answer the questions.
But if you login, you can do all this from your device!
We will continue the movie next week. :)
Holt-Our New Literature Book!
Choose someone without a device (or who wants to)
to go through the instructions on my computer to walk through it on the big screen. :)
Please click on the button for your new online literature book.
If you do not have a device today, or do not want to use it, you may use a book. But please complete assignments at home on your computer so that you can participate in our discussion about whether we like the functionality of this type of book. Thank you!
Your username is your @glendoraschools.org address
(first initial, last name, last four of your id.)
and your password is your last initial (capitalized) and your whole student id. number.
You will find three assignments waiting for you.
Run the Stream to start video first.
Check that it runs on your device, but you probably want to watch it from my screen all together. :)
Anyone that prefers not to use a device or doesn't have one today, check out a literature book.
Everyone begin assignment: Reading and annotation: from "Love's Vocabulary"
You can annotate straight from your device! You can also listen to it straight from your device!
However, you will probably want to listen from my computer, so we don't have mulitiples. :)
If you are using a hardcopy, take notes on your Love notes. :)

Work with a partner to answer the questions. If you would like you can type them on your device. Look for the Q button. You may also write out your answers, but I would like you to try to type them up at home. If you can't, make sure that you have an MLA heading for me. :)
Finish anything undone for homework to your best ability.
I will help with any tech or other problems on Tuesday.
Please straighten the chairs and leave them as you found them. ;) Thanks.

Semester 2: All the Names of Love

1/2/2017

This semester we are lucky enough to pilot, or test out, a new literature book for the English Department at Glendora High School and the District. This means we have brand new books! This also means that we need to be a team-- thinking about what works, what doesn't, and what we need in our class and for classes to come. While the books and some of the coordinating stories are new, our text will be Romeo and Juliet, a core work for freshman at Glendora High School and everywhere for generations. Let's see if we can explore this text in new ways.

Starting with Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham- which means through smiles and tears. It is a Bollywood movie similiar to Romeo and Juliet- But the subtitle is - "it's all about loving your parents". How does this kind of love change the movie's ending? Hint- they live. What is Shakespeare saying abou the kind of love that Romeo and Juliet feel. Are there different kinds and characteristics of love?

One of our new ways will be lots of technology additions. Your book and many intro. videos will be online. Having enough devices will be a struggle. Bring your own device when you can. I will have devices for you to use or to use in partners whenever I can. We will also do things as a group from my computer and offline when necessary. We will have to go with the flow- but this is critical - working with and around technology- for you to move into work and college experiences. I can't wait. :)
What you need:
  • You will need a notebook, journal, or place to take notes when things are not on handouts.
  • To login to your digital book (when we have access- to be announced).
  • Participate at home and in class.
  • Keep an open, but thoughtful, mind and share your thoughts.
