Please check in with Aries, Google Classroom and the class website
Grades will be posted on Aries weekly

Supplies:

  • Notebook for notes and assignments

  • Highlighters (5 colors)
  • Sign on to Turnitin.com to submit ALL essays/projects done out of class
  • Sign on to Google Classroom for dates, assignments, the class folder, etc.
  • Post-its (for easy access note taking in our novels)

  • 3x5 notecards for research and study aides

  • Literature books will be provided. However, if you are really enjoying a book, I strongly recommend purchasing the title so that you can take notes in it directly, fold back the covers, and all the little things that we do to "loved" books.

Grade Breakdown:
  • Essay Writing & Literature Tests and quizzes: 70%
  • Vocabulary, Homework and Projects: 30%

Grading Scale:
 A   =93-100+      B+ = 87-89.9       C+ = 77-79.9     D+ = 67-69.9      F= 59.9% or below
 A- = 90-92.9       B   =83-86.9        C   =73-76.9       D   = 63-66.9
                           B- = 80-82.9        C- = 70-72.9       D- = 60-62.9

*NY or Not Yet is worth up to a 70% until corrected.

•   B's are achieved through following directions. A's, A+'s, and extra credit is achieved through effort over and above class expectations.
•   Due the fact that students can and frequently do earn extra credit, I do not round grades.

Attendance/Late Work Policy:
  • All assignments will be given with advance notice and are due on time. Absent work and tests must be turned in/taken during tutorial the following day, allowing for the scheduling of other missed classes. All work is expected on time on return of work given with notice unless other arraignments are made. Are you a team player? If you miss a class for a sport, choir, etc. come as a team to tutorial for a mini-class to get back on track. Essentially, tutorial is your make-up, mini-class, time for a free tutor, or just time to get questions answered. Use it. No tests, make-up work, etc. can be taken care of during class or lunch.
  • NO LATE WORK IS ACCEPTED excepting excused absences or assignments over 39 pts. Progress checks and vocabulary homework must be done on time so that I am aware of participation and students can participate in the current activities.
Essays and projects (or assignments 40 pts. or more) for partial credit within the week of the due date and must be accompanied by a parent signature to assure me that your parent is aware of your tardy.
  • If an absence is unexcused, no work or test may be made up.
  • Excused absences should turn in work that was due the day of absence on return and will have time to complete work missed. Assignments should be turned in within the week so that students don't continue to fall behind. All assignments should be made up within the grading period and may not be visible on Aeries after the time has passed so that students can focus on what is current.
  • A printer problem does not excuse an assignment. Most assignments will be considered on time with proper submission to turnitin.com, google, or email as a last resort.

Essays:
  • All essays should be typed unless they are in-class essays.
  • Correct essay format is 1" margins all sides, double spaced, and 12pt. font Times New Roman. See MLA guidelines.
  • All essays should be submitted to turnitin.com for credit. Hard copies are receipts to edit, comment, and share. Turnitin.com is where you will earn the grade.
  • There are computers in the library for students to use if one is unavailable at home.

Classroom Rules:
  • My classroom is a safe house. Respect everyone at all times, both those in class with us and those outside of our classroom. ALWAYS be polite to each other.
  • No eating or drinking- except water.
  • Cheating is an automatic zero and an automatic unsatisfactory on your report card. If there is a question about a student or a group of students, the test will not count. No retests/make-ups/redo’s will be given for cheating. Having someone else help edit is different from having him/her rewrite or write for you.  Be you and we will go from there. Haven't you always wanted to just be yourself? Be that! Always fail with dignity if you must, a 50% is always better than a zero. (It is a lot closer to 60%!) And we will always respect you more for it!
  • Phones are not allowed during class unless during a requested activity. Any time a phone is out during a test, it will be considered cheating. No warnings during a test.

Emergencies:

All rules aside, I realize that sometimes life just happens. If you ever have a problem, let me know so that I can work with you. Bottom Line: my class is a place where I both expect and encourage learning.
