Our silent reading book is The Boy in the Striped Pajamas which, though about World War II and written by an Irish author, will discuss some of the same issues as does Remarque in All Quiet in the Western Front. Remarque is writing historical fiction as a honest look at war. What would be the motives of an Irish author? Though it uses a much lighter style, closer to a fable or fairytale, does it make the message less fearful or important? | Timeline: 20+ min. silent reading time in class. 1/25- begin 50 pages a week. 2/1-50 2/9- 100 2/16- 150 2/22- 200 Test and packet due: February 25-26 |
