Tone: The author's feeling toward the text.
How are All Quiet on the Western Front and The Book Thief different?
Theme: The main idea of the story.
How are they the same?
Class Friday:
**Watch The Book Thief  trailer (above).
**Silent read The Book Thief 30 min., pages 1-35.
**Please make sure that your notes are in MLA and that you have a Works Cited for The Book Thief.
**Write a paragraph (3 quotes and citations) discussing ONE symbol (A color or A character). What does the symbol mean and why does it matter to the author or should matter to the reader?
**Write a paragraph (3 quotes and citations) discussion question 3
from the Reader's Guide in the back of the book.

Note: Both of these paragraphs are rough drafts.
They should be written, but you may want to add to them, edit them, or change them by the end.
And that is just fine. :)
