Thank you for the awesome food!!!
It has been wonderful tasting and sharing in all of your special recipes and memories!

Classwork: We are finishing any presentations. You may work on homework quietly in class as long as you are respectful. Be prepared to take a quiz and review MLA everyday.
Homework: Make sure that you are reading 2 chapters a class in your Greek texts.
Period 3:
Nature Myths: Phaethon and Orpheus- with a card for each.
Next quiz: Hermes, Hephaestus and Aphrodite.
Period 4:
Nature Myths: Prometheus and Pandora- with a card for each.
Next quizzes: Hades and Demeter/ Twins.

Looking ahead:
Quiz on all the Olympians from the first section. Finishing symbol notes and quiz with partner. Individual quiz review- Olympians and Symbols. Olympians, Symbols and Nature Myths... etc. We will always review, so study so they are easy and if you struggle-- there is always another chance. :)
Remember as we share food together and discuss its importance in our lives, that you take time to remember that there are people who struggle to put food on the table every day. Take a moment to grab an extra can of food from the store or home to share with you neighbors.
Thank you. My personal goal- 100+ points.

Classwork:
1) Watch the History Channel video on Thor.
2) Set up notes in MLA. This time divide your paper in half to compare Zeus and Thor as you take the notes you feel are valuable.
2) Read Athene (Athena) and Poseidon aloud.
3) Click on the assignment sheet below and work on the questions for anytime remaining.
Homework: Finish any questions for Assignment #1-2. Be prepared for a quizzes on each assignment. You may use your video notes as your outside source, if you are still struggling to find a source to compare to Zeus or Hera. All you are doing is finding a story that relates to the gods as we did for all previous assignments. You may chose something from history, literature, religion, psychology, current events, etc. The only requirement is that it isn't about the god your comparing, but you feel it relates and you can explain the relationship.
Other homework- see Music Week post below. Due next week.

On a private note:
Thank you for your patience. I plan to be back on Monday. My grandmother who I have used as many examples of real love, whose engagement ring I wear, who was married 71 years, passed away yesterday. We watched the sunrise together yesterday morning. Please think about who you are and who you love. Make your family art special to you. If you haven't interviewed a family member yet, do. Not for me. For yourself. <3

Music Week - next week

Again- same project! How do you get an A/B? Make sure that you cite all of your sources! You need both internal, or in-text citations, and external, a.k.a. a work cited. Don't forget those and you should be fine. Our focus this week? MUSIC and WHY it is so important to us. What issues does your music talk about? Is it created a certain way? How/why does it influence us and is that a positive thing? Here is a wonderful interview on two musician's who are doing all of those things.

After our many talks about culture and heritage, after looking both at the world at large and our own individual world, it is time to turn to our class study the Greeks. Here is an introduction. Remember we are still looking for why we bother to study them still today. Why do they still speak to us and how do they give us a way to discuss our own views and problems? Class time:  Set up notes in MLA. Extra credit if you do a thesis statement and a works cited. After the video, choose partners and sign up for our next presentation Music. The first way, as in oral traditions, that we began to tell our stories and show what they mean to us. Homework: Work on your personal art (see below), due this week Thursday and Friday. Work on your music presentation- due Thursday/Friday next week. I will try to be in as soon as I can. (Family emergency) Sorry for postponing the left over presentations. Thank you for all your effort and participation.
