Music is an important part of our oral culture. Like Beah, it is something we carry with us, or carries us, through the moments in our lives. We have an internal soundtrack that connects us to family, friends, culture, life itself. It is time to reflect on your soundtrack and try to put it into words. A Long Way Gone, Chapters 2-5: A motif is a reoccurring image or idea in a story. It may reoccur in a single story, an author's work, the work of a cultural period or place, or seem to be a part of a human story. The idea that someone out there is thinking of us under the same moon or across an ocean seems to be a human experience, but also have a special place for people who have had to leave homelands behind. Another motif from A Long Way Gone Chapter 2, is the idea of having to face your own reflection. This seems to be a very human idea too, one that we have already mentioned with Oedipus, but in this text is very literal.
