Unfortunately, it is time to walk in the dark. Our full text study for this quarter is Night. In comparison to the works we have read about civil war and discourse, we will look at Night and companion pieces as not only a record of the past, but as a "prayer for future generations."

We are continuing with Plutarch's Lives which we discussed last time. Please listen, read, and annotate. You may choose to annotate in your book or on your device. After finishing, answer the questions. Make sure that you have a commentary, quote, and citation. There are handouts on my desk for help- that I forgot to put out. They are yours to use if you need them. :)

You have two more short assignments to work on with a partner, if you want a partner. The first one is thinking about the main idea. In fiction, this is can be easier for many people. Finding the main idea in non-fiction is just as important. Annotate where needed and answer the two questions at the end. (I apologize, but I do not have my hardcopy at home. Work with a neighbor if you cannot complete this assignment without a device.)

The last assignment is a close read of Plutarch's Lives. Read through the material and annotate if you choose- it is mostly review. More importantly, answer the question at the end with commentary, quotes, citations. Remember how we talked about the fact that biographies are meant to be factual, but there are always different points of view? The author always has his/her/their point of view as well. Think about what Plutarch thinks of the issue given the way he presents it. Whose side is he on? Do you agree with him? Or was his presentation skewed?

Welcome to Semester 2! We will be piloting a new book for the English Department at Glendora High for the District. This means you have special access and brand new books. Please have fun and share your thoughts. Let's work as a team to help the District make this choice a decade in the making. We will try to use whatever devices we can. If you have a device that you enjoy using, please bring it. If you do not have a device, I will try to get devices into the classroom whenever I can. We will also try to do things offline or partner up when we need to. We are going to have to go with the flow, but I can't wait.
