End of the Semester: Of Mice and Men and Fairytales

The plan: Every day we will read another chapter from Of Mice and Men and discuss its symbolism and importance. Then students will get into groups and try to apply the same skills to deciphering a fairytale. The fairytale paper will be written as an individual, but groups will help students talk out their ideas. I will check on groups. :)
Classwork 11/30 and 12/1: We reviewed "To a Mouse" and the terms allegory and allusion. We discussed the significance of the title Of Mice and Men and Steinbeck's message. Periods 4 and 6 read Chapter 1. Period 3 read from page 13-31. Students should have finished the study guide that corresponds to our reading in class, but may finish at home if they need more time.
Homework: Read your fairytale and decide what the moral may be. Extra annotations are recommended, but not mandatory- yet. :)

We then took a moment to talk about Fairytales. Our Greek mythology was based on real events, our comic books were too, and now Of Mice and Men is as well. What do our fairytales mean? I am asking you to be a Grimm. Choose your fairytale from the tales provided. You are on an adventure to find the truth.
