Have fun!! Be safe!! Be responsible!! This is a special event and the creator of Action Mr. Chuck Hyatt will be in attendance this year!! Essays due tonight on Turnitin.com. If working as a team, only one partner needs to submit to Turnitin.com. Thank you! I finished looking over the rough drafts. I do not keep marking the same mistake all the way through. Use my edits to fix mistakes and then continue to check for those same mistakes (or similar mistakes) throughout. I did already find one essay with plagiarized portions. That cannot happen. Copy and cite or talk about what you think. Do not use other peoples summaries. You read the work(s). If I did not catch plagiarism while I edited, Turnitin.com probably will. I will not be online to fix mistakes tonight, especially at 11:58. Please make sure that you always finish the essay the night before (at the latest) so that I (or any other teacher) can help you with any problems-- before it is late. :)
Assignment: reading during silent reading (and at home) and two pages of notes, journal, and reflection.
Les Miserables by Victor HugoI highly recommend watching Les Miserables. It is at Pantages in May-ish! $8.99 on Amazon for purchase right now. ;) "Empty Chairs and Empty Tables"
All Quiet on the Western Front: Chapter 8
After reading, watch the Twilight Zone's - A Stop at Willoughby.
Fill out your handout and turn it in by the end of class. You may work with a partner. Thank you. But the earlier phrase is actually "God is in the detail." While the "devil is in the details" means that there is often a mysterious unknown, "God is in the detail' means that we should look into things thoroughly. Both are appropriate here. Today we start note cards for symbols, characters, issues, events...the choice is yours. Whatever you choose, the details reveal both the heaven and hell that Remarque needs you to see.
Today we register for our Junior Year!
Make sure to bring your cards and questions! After roll, go to your counselors door and find a way to sit outside until they are free. Do not block the hallway, but bring a phone, book, jacket, etc. and sit on either side of the hall. As soon as you are done, return to class. When you return: Work with a partner or small group on your hero chart for both Tristan and Lancelot. Have 1-3 good sentences about how they fit each stage. When the whole class returns: Silent reading 20-30 min. (Audible takes 28 min.) All Quiet on the Western Front, chapter 5. If you do not finish. Finish for homework. If there is still class time: Work with a partner or small groups again and complete packet through the questions for 1-5, especially what you know so far about the characters. Wednesday: Hero Charts and All Quiet packet 1-5, due. We will review and take 1-5 quiz on Friday. Interested in moving from CP to AP English? There is a mandatory testing and chat so that students can understand the expectations and receive feedback. The times for essays and multiple choice are as follows: Thursday 1/31: 7-8:30 am; 12:20 -12:55 pm; 2:45-3:35 Friday 2/1: 7-8:30 am Room 114 The preference is that they come in for a total of one hour and a half: 50 minutes for the essay, and 40 minutes for 15 Multiple Choice Qs. We are offering an additional lunch opportunity to talk with current AP students, especially those who have come from CP classes the previous year. That will be Friday 2/1 at 12:35 to 1:15 as it is assembly schedule. Thank you! Ms. Bell Room 114 |
